16 Aug Lindsay Kearns leads Mustang 1-2-3 to open Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night
Lindsay Kearns has charged through to take the opening race victory at the Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night driving the CMA Car Mods Australia Ford Mustang.
Kearns led a Mustang top three ahead of Parramatta Vehicle Services’ Tyler Mecklem and the Ultimate Diesel Tuning entry of Glen Walker.
It was a manic opening to the race led by a fast charging FG Motorsport Mercedes-AMG A45 AMG driven by Chris Gunther. Starting from the back after an ignition problem, the Class A1 entry scythed its way through the slower entries to be close to the top 10 until it returned to the pits mid-race.
Mecklem won the start from a slow starting Tony Quinn in the Game Over Chevrolet Camaro, but Kearns was the mover early and challenged for the lead within the first three laps.
This led to an unchallenged victory for Kearns from reigning Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night co-winner Mecklem and a steady Walker, who battled Robert Gooley in the Speedcafe.com BMW M4 F82 for much of the duration.
Quinn recovered to fifth ahead of the Class B2-winning BMW M3 E92 of KCK Lubricants-backed Ben Gersekowski and the Class A1 leading Grifcorp Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG of Tom Hayman.
Karlie Buccini recovered from a minor off at Turn 3 to finish eighth outright and winner of Class B1 driving the BMW 340i.
Second in Class B2 to Gersekowski was the Axis Surveys M3 E92 of Richard Shinkfield, with Jake Camilleri’s rapid Mazda 3 MPS securing Class C and completed the outright top 10.
Allan Jarvis outlasted his rivals in Class D to score the win in the TOA57D Motorsport Volkswagen Polo GTi after a close battle with the Trakwell Racing Toyota 86 of Angus Baillis.
An impressive run from Emily Cacaviello driving the Littles Lawyers-supported Toyota GR86 came to an end after contact was made while battling for the Class D lead with Rob O’Connor’s Kirksworks BMW 130i.
Both entries were wounded in the contact, with Cacaviello’s steering damaged leading to the GR86 stopping on the front straight and causing the sole safety car of the race.
Race 2 for the Hi-Tec APC Enduro Championships at the Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night is the second 30-minute sprint race at 1:40pm AEST featuring live on SBS On-Demand, Kayo and Fox Sports.
