20 Apr HOLDT AND CO READY TO HUNT MORE TITLES IN 2022 APC
After claiming the 2019 Australian Production Cars Class E title with driver Tom Needham, team owner and racer Chris Holdt is readying for an expanded assault on the 2022 Australian Production Cars.
Holdt will be fielding an expanded two-car Prime Motorsport outfit in the 2022 series, and has his eye on championships in both Class C and Class B.
The team will be well prepared for the 2022 campaign, with expansion off the track as well as on sure to serve them well.
“After our 2019 season we branched out and opened up our shop in the Gold Coast, building and preparing race cars and high-performance vehicles full time,” Holdt explained.
“From roll cages to GT Cars, we have been flat out ever since, but we somehow managed to build a brand new HSV Astra for the 2020 APC season.
“Obviously, COVID prevented us debuting that car until the 2021 Bathurst 6 Hour, and we ran at the 2021 Sydney Motorsport Park event as well, but since then with no racing we have decided to expand to a two-car team for the entire season.
“We have built up a B Class SS Commodore from my VZ Touring Car which I had in the shop, converting it back to 3E Spec.
“We will also be running the Astra in Class C With myself and Gerard Oflynn at the wheel, while the SS Commodore will be steered in Class B by Chris Gunther who we have locked in for the season, and a co-driver – the options for which we are still exploring currently.
“We will be looking to put both cars on the top step of the podium in their respective classes and will be looking to be at the pointy end of the championship overall come the end of the season.
“We are 100 percent hunting those titles – after claiming the 2019 class E title with Tom Needham, we are hungry for another shot!”
Like Prime Motorsport, the APC has also been undergoing changes since the last time it raced, with a return to enduro formats and the introduction of a tyre panel for the five-round season which concludes at the Bathurst International.
“We love the calendar this year and like most, we welcome the endurance format back with open arms! It is the best possible outcome for the category in our opinion,” Holdt said.
“We were happy running on MRFs as we all had the same tyre to use and it made for financially friendly racing cause they just never wore out, but we are also looking forward to the tyre panel this year and with the variation of tyres available it will be interesting for sure.
“As we get ready for the season start in May, I would like to thank my amazing wife and children for their unconditional support. Motorsport can be a time consuming sport and without them behind me I wouldn’t be doing half what I am able to.
“I also want to thank my awesome team – Gerry, Shane, Bob and Frans – and our amazing sponsors who continue to support what we love: Air and Allied Sales Pacific, KCK Lubricants, Phil Verheijen Mortgage Broker, Trans Communications, Prestige Stripes and Signs, Built HQ and Car Doctor Qld.”
The 2022 APC season will kick off at Sydney Motorsport Park across May 26-27, before continuing on to Phillip Island (June 25-26), Queensland Raceway (August 5-7), Tailem Bend (October 21-23) and the Bathurst International (November 11-13).
The series will provide a mix of endurance formats from 30-minute races to one-hour races to 300km events across the five rounds; with competitors able to compete on their choice of tyre from a nominated tyre panel featuring Hankook, Dunlop, MRF Tyres and Yokohama.
