AASA 6 Hours of Sandown to close out APC Enduro Championship season

AASA 6 Hours of Sandown to close out APC Enduro Championship season
Published:

The APC Enduro Championship has confirmed the AASA 6 Hours of Sandown will conclude its season by headlining a new Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA) event in December.

Originally scheduled to end its season as part of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series finale at Calder Park, the APC Enduro Championship has instead accepted an opportunity to headline a new AASA-promoted event at Sandown.

Two three-hour races will feature as part of the event schedule where some of the fastest production-based models will battle it out, harking back to the last six-hour event 23-years ago.

Sandown’s history is predominantly known as the venue for the pre-Bathurst 1000 endurance race, which began as a six-hour event in 1964. This inaugural race welcomed international drivers to Melbourne and lasted two years before reverting to a shorter duration.

The last six-hour event held at Sandown was another pre-Bathurst warm-up, this time for the then-burgeoning 12-Hour production car race. Peter Fitzgerald and Brett Peters won the race in a factory-supported Porsche 968 CS.

Ending the APC Enduro Championship season at Sandown provides a perfect ending to the schedule by returning endurance racing to the historic venue as a large field is expected thanks to the inclusive regulations announced earlier this year.

The AASA 6 Hours of Sandown will conclude the APC Enduro Championship on December 5-6.
