19 Oct INTENSE MEGUIAR’S APC BATTLES RAGE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT PVS SYDNEY STOUSH
Update 20 October: A 30-second post race penalty was applied to Mecklem in the #9 Parramatta Vehicle Services Ford Mustang entry for the incident with Burges. As a result, the following outright and class positions have been updated: Callaghan/Lillis – outright 3rd from 4th (1st for A2 from 2nd), Sutton, outright 4th from 5th (no class change), Burges/Hodges – outright 5th from 6th (no class change), and Mecklem/Morrall – outright 6th from 3rd (2nd for A2 from 1st).
As the sun began to set at Sydney Motorsport Park, the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars PVS Sydney Stoush racing action was only just beginning to heat up. With rain threatening during the opening laps and the quintessential sunset squint heading into turn one by the closing laps of race two, there were a number of outright and class positions up for grabs.

When all was said and done, Dean Campbell would take the #118 DA Campbell Transport BMW M2 to the top step of the outright and class X podium for the second time this weekend. It was a lights-to-flag victory for Campbell who was nervous to start the race with the threat of rain, joking with co-driver Crick that he should take the start should the weather take a turn.
In outright and class X second-place for the second time today, Grant Sherrin (#27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4) didn’t make it easy for the pole sitter to convert it to a race win. Sherrin kept the pressure on the #118 over the course of the 15-lap race. When Campbell put two wheels in the dirt near the end of the running, it looked to be the opportunity Sherrin was waiting for, however, it wasn’t to be with Campbell recovering to take the win.
Campbell also set a new track race lap record during race two with a lap time of 1m 41.5131s, with the previous record being set in 2022 in a BMW M3.
Third outright on the podium also wasn’t immune to the frenetic late-race activity. With just mere moments to go, it looked like the #21 Secure Wealth BMW M4 with Leigh Burges behind the wheel was on to take the final outright and class X podium step. It was not to be, however, when Tyler Mecklem (#9 Parramatta Vehicle Services Ford Mustang) – who had been nipping on the heels of the #21 all race – made a daring pass stick while running the #21 wide. The move resulted in an outright third place and class A2 win for Mecklem, who is sharing driving duties with Hadrian Morrall this weekend.
Inter-class battles raged throughout the race, with fourth-placed outright Nathan Callaghan (#64 Cachet Homes Chev Camaro SS – 2nd for A2) and fifth outright Chris Sutton (#321 321 Motorsport Mitsubishi Evo X – 1st for A1) jostling for outright position on the road.
Leigh Burges, co-driving with Simon Hodges this weekend, crossed the line in 6th outright and 3rd for class X after duking it out with Mecklem on the final lap.
Outright seventh and eighth saw another heated battle between classes and, this time, teammates. The #999 Buccini Transport BMW 135i of Courtney Prince (co-driving with Karlie Buccini – 1st for B1) and the #71 Buccini Transport BMW M140i of Paul Buccini (2nd for A1) kept everyone on the edge of their seat as they fought for outright track position.
Zaki Wazir (#15 VSP BMW M1 – outright 9th and 3rd for A1) and Robert Vandepol (#217 MOB/Ashley Jarvis Racing Toyota 86 – outright 10th and 1st for I) rounded out the top 10.
Rob Jarvis (#70 TOA57D Motorsport VW Polo GTI) was next across the line in 11th (1st for C), followed by Loclan Hennock (#99 Wash It Toyota 86) in 12th and 2nd for I.

Outright and class X winner, Dean Campbell – #118 DA Campbell Transport BMW M2 (with Cameron Crick)
“This weekend is very important for the championship. We need to keep edging away as these guys (#27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4) are right on us. They are really good to race, they are really good people, and we are enjoying it. Right at the end, I ran wide over the back, and Grant was straight on my back. I had to do some defending on the last few corners. It was my fault, but I got it done.”
Second outright and for class X, Grant Sherrin – #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4
“I’m really happy with second place for the team again in race two. I tried to make a few moves (on Campbell), and got a couple of blocks there towards the end. We’ll come back tomorrow and see what we can do.
