12 Jun SHERRIN RENTALS BACKS EXTENDED FIGHT IN THE NIGHT
Following the announcement of the extended three-hour Fight in the Night to be held at Queensland Raceway in July, Sherrin Rentals has thrown its support behind the independent Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars race as naming rights partner.
The Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night will be held on the evening of Saturday July 13, as part of a two day event featuring the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars, Hyundai Excels, Monochrome GT exotic cars and more at Queensland Raceway, filling the gap left in the venue’s calendar by Motorsport Australia’s cancellation of the planned SpeedSeries event for that weekend last Friday.
The Queensland-based Sherrin Rentals has a long and storied involvement with Australian production car racing, with its head Michael Sherrin and his sons Iain Sherrin and Grant Sherrin long-time competitors in the national series, holding numerous championships between them – including the 2023 Outright and Class X title, held by Iain and the #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4.
“The Sherrin family and Sherrin Rentals has always been supportive of production car racing in Australia, going back decades,” Iain Sherrin said.
“When we were contacted by Troy Williams (GM of Production Car Racing Ltd, the category managers for APC) regarding the abandonment of the Speed Series round by Motorsport Australia, we were keen to make sure we could get onboard and support the new independent event and the extended Fight in the Night concept which is very exciting.
“The Fight in the Night really is something special on the Australian motorsport landscape, a traditional event that has been held at Queensland Raceway for many years, and which holds a special place for production car racers around the country. It was a tough pill to swallow for all of the competitor group and I am sure also for the Category Management when we learned the SpeedSeries round was being cancelled, with no alternate event provided.
“Production Car racers and management are a resilient bunch – we always find a way to endure regardless of the ongoing challenges. As last years’ Fight in the Night victors we are pleased that we can play a role in ensuring this race’s continuation both this year, and we hope into the future.”
Williams said he was pleased to welcome Sherrin Rentals on-board as naming rights partner for the popular race.
“There is absolutely no doubt that Sherrin Rentals and the Sherrin family are passionate supporters of production car racing in Australia, and we are so pleased to have their support as we look to bring the extended three hour Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night to Queensland Raceway on July 13,” Williams said.
“Together with Queensland Raceway, Excels, Monochrome GT exotic cars and more, July 12-13 is sure to be a fantastic event and I can’t wait to see it all come together in just over four weeks’ time – a massive thanks to Josh and the team at QR for an agile and proactive response to the SpeedSeries event cancellation – if it weren’t for Josh reaching out to us in the first place, none of this would be possible.”
As part of the July 12-13 event, Meguiar’s APC will contest two practice sessions on the Friday, followed by qualifying on the Saturday ahead of the three-hour Fight in the Night that evening. Further information about the event will be released in due course by Queensland Raceway.
Meguiar’s APC entries remain open for this event as well as all upcoming events on the 2024 calendar, with entries able to be submitted at https://ausprodcars.com.au/entry-form/
