SPEEDWAY RACERS RETURN FOR MORE APC ACTION

SPEEDWAY RACERS RETURN FOR MORE APC ACTION

In 2019, Darren Forrest and Paul Razum made the move from racing speedway to compete in the Australian Production Cars, making their mark by claiming the AM2 Class Championship in a ‘thrasher’ turned race car.

After some time away, the racers are now set to make their return to the category next week for round three of the 2022 APC brought to you by LIQUI MOLY season, this time in Class A2 in their new #41 Penrite/Boronia Towbars Holden Commodore VF HSV R8.

The #41 will be one of 31 APC entrants set to descend on Sandown Raceway for two x 30-minute races and one x one-hour race across September 16-18.

“During COVID-19 Paul and I built a new car from scratch, which with me being in Victoria and Raz being in South Australia was no easy feat, let me tell you,” Forrest grinned.

“This will be the first run we have had with the new VF, with the exception of the last two Bathurst Six Hour events.

“Our old VZ was pretty good around Sandown and both Paul and I like the track, so we reckon the new car should go better, and we are also looking forward to seeing how it performs on the Yokohama tyres.

“The Sandown Raceway round is a favourite for me, I don’t get to race in Victoria ever and so quite a few will come out and watch us – to have my grandkids get to see their Pop’s race car for the first time will be exciting.

“It is going to be great to have such a big field of quality drivers to compete against also. We will just try and do our thing, keep it on the track, and have some fun.”

Forrest is already planning future APC brought to you by LIQUI MOLY outings also.

“We are planning on racing at The Bend Motorsport Park round, we have practiced there before so that will be good to race there, and then we will get to tearing the car down ready for the next Bathurst Six Hour,” Forrest said.

“We are really looking forward to getting back into the Production Car racing, there is a lot of cool history around the category and a lot of that history was made at Sandown!

“The car will be easy to spot too – we had it painted up like a Kittyhawk for earlier events and we haven’t had time to change it as we have both been so busy with work, so it will cut a fine figure around Sandown, that is fore sure!” Forrest concluded, while thanking sponsors Boronia Towbars and Penrite as well as his crew for their support.

Round three of the 2022 Australian Production Cars brought to you by LIQUI MOLY will hit Sandown Raceway across September 16-18 as part of the latest event for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships. It will feature two x 30-minute races and one x one-hour race.
