TCM RACE WINNER MAKES MONOCHROME GT4 AUSTRALIA DEBUT

Experienced Touring Car Masters competitor Adam Garwood is making his Monochrome GT4 Australia debut at the Bathurst International this weekend.

Garwood is a prolific racer and already this year has competed in not only TCM but also Sprint Cars and made his Trans Am debut. He has also in a number of other categories over the years, including S5000 and Porsche Carrera Cup, winning the 2015 Sports GT Championship in a Porsche GT3 Cup Car.

The TCM race winner is taking the wheel of the Ginetta G56 that Renee Gracie was to race this weekend, before she was unable to make the event at the last minute.

Garwood is running the G56 under the #2 race number this weekend with the support of Develon Construction Equipment and is already making a mark, being second fastest in this morning’s practice session ahead of qualifying this afternoon.

“It is certainly exciting. I have been watching the category across the year and it just so happens that the mechanic who is working on our TCM car does a lot of work with (car owner) Mark Griffith, so he got us in contact, and we managed to do a deal for this weekend,” Garwood said.

“The car is really well balanced and does everything right. I haven’t really driven something with aero for five years or so, so it is a bit of a learning curve, but so far, so good.

“We are focused on just doing the best we can this weekend. We have some sponsors on board including Develon Construction Equipment who have come on for the rest of the year, so we just want to do the best for them as we can and get as much coverage for them as possible.

“I want to say a big thank you to Develon for coming on board and supporting us, and also to Justin and Mark Griffith for giving us the opportunity to get on track this weekend.”

The Bathurst International marks the 2023 season finale for Monochrome GT4 Australia, with four x 30-minute races to close out what has been an exciting debut year for the category, which will move to a standalone grid in 2024 after running alongside the Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars this year.

Garwood will be part of a 10-car field for the event, lining up against Shane Smollen, Mark Griffith, Steve Jukes, Karl Begg, Jacob Lawrence and racing legend, John Bowe, Chris Pappas, and fellow category newcomers Rob Love, Bailey Love and Tim Leahey.
