THE BATTLES CONTINUE SUNDAY AT PVS SYDNEY STOUSH

Sunday’s racing opened with another fantastic 30-minute battle at the PVS Sydney Stoush at Sydney Motorsport Park, with action right down to the final moments of the race. In what is the final day of the penultimate round of the 2024 Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars season, the racers didn’t hold back as they looked to claim valuable outright and class points ahead of the final one-hour hit out later this afternoon.

Dean Campbell has gone three from three so far this weekend with another outright and class X victory in the #118 DA Campbell Transport BMW M2. Grant Sherrin brought the #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4 across the line second outright and in class X in an almost identical battle to Saturday’s race two (click here to read more, and click here for the race one recap) between the two championship title contenders.

Tyler Mecklem is also showing the outright pace of the Ford Mustangs this weekend, putting the #9 Parramatta Vehicle Services Ford Mustang on the third step of the race podium again while claiming first for A2.

Campbell got the run off the line, as Sherrin, Nathan Callaghan (#64 Cachet Homes Chev Camaro SS – outright 4th and 2nd for A2), Leigh Burges (#21 Secure Wealth BMW M4 – outright 5th and 3rd for X), and Chris Sutton (#321 321 Motorsport Mitsubishi Evo X – outright sixth and 1st for A1) all tried to find their place on the road during the run into Turn 1.

As the field began to sort itself out, Sherrin traded places with Callaghan for second and third on the road a number of times before getting back to putting pressure on Campbell, with the #118 racer doing all he could to fend off the attacking M4.

Seeing an opportunity around lap 10, Sherrin made a move on Campbell, with the right front of the #27 making just enough contact with the back of Campbell to send Sherrin spearing into the grass. This trip into the weeds would see Sherrin rejoin the race in fourth position behind the two pacey American muscle cars of Mecklem and Callaghan.

When all was said and done, it would be a fight to the finish for second outright between Mecklem and Sherrin, with the latter getting the job done at the start of the final lap. A post-race investigation deemed no further action on the incident between Sherrin and Campbell, declaring it a racing incident.

Paul Buccini (#71 Buccini Transport BMW M140i – outright 7th and 2nd for A1), Zaki Wazir (#15 VSP BMW M1 – outright 8th and 3rd for A1), Trent Whyte (#18 Ultimate Diesel Tuning Toyota Yaris GR – outright 9th and 4th for A1), Allan Jarvis (#70 TOA57D Motorsport VW Polo GTI – outright 10th and 1st for C), Robert Vanderpol (#217 MOB/Ashley Jarvis Racing Toyota 86 – outright 11th and 1st for I), Karlie Buccini (#999 Buccini Transport BMW 135i – outright 12th and 1st for B1), and Loclan Hennock (#99 Wash It Toyota 86 – outright 13th and 2nd for I) rounded out the field.
