QUINN READY FOR EXTENDED SHERRIN RENTALS FIGHT IN THE NIGHT CHALLENGE

QUINN READY FOR EXTENDED SHERRIN RENTALS FIGHT IN THE NIGHT CHALLENGE

Tony Quinn will team up with his eldest son Kent Quinn to tackle the extended Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night with the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars at his own Queensland Raceway this weekend (July 12-13).

While Quinn has raced in the Fight in the Night before – including taking the win for GT4 Australia in 2023 in his Porsche Cayenne – and he has contested a number of APC events in the past in a Ford Mustang, he will be taking to QR this weekend in a totally ‘new to him’ race car: the #93 Norganics Protein BMW M2.

“I have never actually driven it – my son Kent drove it at the Bathurst 6 Hour, and it got them on the podium, so I take that as a good sign!” Quinn said.

“I have high expectations of the team,” he added.

As both a competitor and the venue owner, Quinn is excited about the July 12-13 event and the extended duration of the popular night race.

“Queensland Raceway is heavily invested in local motorsport and local events. With this event previously cancelled, QR made a commendable effort to bring it back and accommodate both the drivers and teams and bring the event to its full glory!” he said.

“The team at Queensland Raceway sees this as an iconic event that we want to continue to develop in the years to come – racing at QR under lights is a unique experience as this is the only real competition nighttime event.

“This race delivers genuine nighttime racing, and there’s a few tricks to racing under lights! I think the extended race duration will add some excitement too – with cooler conditions, lap times will be faster, and with the extended race distance, it could be anyone’s race.”

When it comes to his goals, Quinn is mainly focused on spending time with his family and not running into any issues this weekend.

“I want to drive with my son, have fun on the night, and keep out of trouble – if you can keep out of trouble during an enduro, you are half-way there!” he said.

“I feel fantastic about driving with my eldest son Kent, it is a privilege that he asked his old man to be honest. It is a bucket list for any father I would suspect and I’m looking forward to it!”

This may not be the last time we see Quinn on the Meguiar’s APC grid this season either: “I would like to be at upcoming events, but I am working on getting a car ready, so you will have to stay tuned!” he grinned.

The Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night event will host both Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars and the extended Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night race, but also racing from Hyundai Excels as well as on-track action for Monochrome GT exotic cars.
